One of my favorite questions I get is “Does this go together?” Friends will often ask me this when they have something they love but they aren’t sure that it works with the greater plan/vision. My answer is usually, “if you love it, we’ll make it work”. Most things can be worked into a design. Whether it’s your favorite flower or a quirky knick knack your grandma gave you, if you love it, there’s a way to make it work.*
When it comes to flowers, I find it best to start with the ones you love. This hand-tied bouquet and patina vase arrangement were made after a quick stop by a florist here in my childhood home town (Cary, NC). I was lucky to find a few of my favorite flowers and greenery then decided to throw a little purple into the mix for something different. I started with the flowers and greenery I’m loving these days: stock, thistle, silver brunia and ruscus. Then I pulled it all together with some mums, carnations, hydrangea and alstroemeria. And what do you have, an affordable but beautiful hand tied bouquet.
*Disclaimer: One exception to this rule is a droopy cushioned recliner. These work best in your local dump or basement. That being said, recliners can work it just takes a little time and commitment to find the right one.
